Biogas production

Biogas is naturally generated from the decomposing of the organic matter by anaerobic bacteria. It can either be generated in landfills (as a result of decomposing of the organic fraction of MSW disposed) or in organic recovery plants, though an anaerobic digestion system. In both cases, biogas can be used for the production of energy.

Biogas is comprised of about 60% of methane, 40% of carbon dioxide, and small amount of hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen, and hydrogen. The heating value of biogas is about 60% of natural gas and about 25% of propane, which gives it energy features that allows a diverse use as fuel. Biogas can be applied in conventional production of electrical and thermal energy (CHP), in transportation, in fuel cells or distribution with natural gas.
